Chapter Twelve

Terran watched Tam leave and his feet twitched in his leather boots, wanting to run after the man and wrap him up in a big hug. Tam had just looked so miserable.

“You’re being mean again,” Terran scolded.

“What?” Dai asked with a scowl. “I didn’t say anything.”

“You didn’t have to.”

Dai grabbed his hamburger and devoured half in one bite. The scowl on his face didn’t invite further conversation.

Terran ignored the forbidding expression. “You’re being an ass.”

Daior choked.

Terran rushed over and smacked Dai on the back a couple of times. Hard. Terran pressed his lips together tightly and donned his best study-in-annoyance face. He’d learnt it in an art class. Not that he had the least bit of artistic talent. No, Terran had been the nude model. Fun times had been had by all. At least until his brother had found out. Killjoy.

“Terran.”

Daior’s warning made Terran want to arch his back and growl.

“No, you listen to me,” Terran demanded. “Did you know you talk in your sleep?”

“The hell I do!”

“Okay, maybe not talk. You sort of mumble when you’re half asleep. You called me Tam.”

“I did not.” Dai’s voice didn’t hold much conviction.

“Did too.”

“Terran.”

“Would you stop saying my name like that? I’m not a child.”

“I know you’re not.”

Dai tried to leer at him. Terran smacked him on the shoulder.

“Not now, I’m trying to get something to stick in that thick head of yours.”

“Baby, I just woke up. My head is pounding, I ache and this burger wasn’t nearly enough to kill the hunger.”

“Sorry,” Terran said, feeling contrite at the reminder. But that didn’t mean he was going to give up. He had a feeling if he let the matter drop, he wouldn’t get another chance. “But I need you to listen to me.”

“We tried it once,” Dai said quietly.

Terran snapped his mouth shut when he realised Dai was actually talking to him. Not just saying words, but sharing.

“Tam and I grew up together. We were specifically designed to work together, fight together. For years we were partners. And lovers. But it didn’t work out. We’re too much alike. I’ve moved on. Whatever feelings I had for Tam are in the past, and that’s where they’re going to stay.”

“But I don’t think they are in the past.” Terran was deadly serious as he tugged Dai around to look at him. “Whatever you felt for Tam is still there. And I want to be a part of it. You just said you guys were made for each

other.”“Professionally.” “Same difference. Maybe it didn’t work before, but you have me now. I can be your gooey centre, keep you guys from going all macho on each other. Dai, please.”

Dai was going to refuse. Terran could see it on his face.

“I don’t understand what the problem is,” Terran protested.

“Life isn’t that simple.”

Terran rolled his eyes. “Trite, Daior. I don’t see why not. What’s so complicated? I like both of you. You like each other. Why can’t we all have what we want?”

“Terran—”

Terran scowled at the bigger man, not understanding why Dai was having so much trouble with this current idea.
